Communal tension once again flared up in lakhimpur Kheri following eve-teasing on Wednesday afternoon. The candidate of one of the national party and his supporters led a massive protest and also brutally assaulted one of the accused after which the cops opened lathi charge to rescue the accused.
The leader was later also taken in custody and detained at the police station before being freed to avert any further untoward situation. A case has been also registered against the alleged eve-teaser and further investigations are on in this regard.
Reports said that kin of senior leader of a national Party (contested from lakhimpur Kheri Sadar seat in this Assembly election and is awaiting result), was teased by two youths of other community on Wednesday afternoon. The girl alleged that the accused stopped her bicycle when she was going to attend coaching and teased her. When she raised an alarm, some supporters of the leader nabbed one of the youths while other slipped. The supporters brutally assaulted the youth and also passed on the message to candidate who rushed to the spot.
Reports said that in the mean time, Additional SP, Jitendra Chowdhary, rushed to the spot and somehow rescued the accused from the clutches of the supporters and took him to the Kotwali police station. In the meantime, the leader reached along with hundred of more supporters and tried to pressurise the cops to hand over the accused in their custody claiming that they will settle the matter on their own. The supporters also forced the local traders to close their establishment.
later seeing the situation taking worse turn, the cops opened lathi charge on the trouble makers and also took the leader in their custody and took them to the police station. District magistrate, Akashdeep and district police chief, Manoj Kumar Jha, who learnt of the above, also reached police station. To avert any untoward incident, they released the leader from the police station after getting a case registered against both the eve-teasers. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to avert communal clash.
It may be mentioned that communal clash took place on last Thursday night after which curfew has been imposed by the district magistrate in the entire city area. However, after the situation turned normal, the officers relaxed the day curfew.
