Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called on Governor Anandiben Patel on Saturday, possibly to brief her in detail about the ongoing protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
However, a government communiqué issued on Saturday evening termed the meeting as a courtesy call.
So far 16 persons have lost their lives in violent clashes over the CAA across the state.
Earlier, Yogi summoned DGP OP Singh and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi to get first hand information about the ongoing protests, before heading to meet the Governor.
On Friday night, the Chief Minister had held a high-level meeting on law and order and directed top officials to take stern action against troublemakers.
Yogi has been keeping a close tab on the situation and has cancelled all his programmes outside Lucknow.
In a tweet, the chief minister posted, “No one indulging in violence will be spared and every citizen will be provided security.”
Earlier, Yogi made it clear to violent protesters that the government would confiscate their properties and auction them to compensate for the losses incurred during arson and violence in several parts of the state.
