Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a financial help of Rs 2 lakh for the youth who lost his leg in an accident and doctors in Jhansi college used his severed leg as a pillow.

The government spokesman said Chief Minister was shocked to know about the apathy of the staff of the Maharani laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi who put the severed leg of the youth as pillow. “The Government has suspended four staff of the hospital including two doctors. CM has also announced a financial help of Rs 2 lakh to the youth,” the spokesman said in a written statement here on Sunday.

Ghanshyam (28) had lost his leg in the accident on Saturday and was brought to the hospital in a critical condition.  During treatment the severed leg of the youth was used as a pillow. Hue and cry was raised after the video of the man lying on a stretcher in the hospital with the severed leg under his head went viral on social and electronic media.

Principal of the medical college’s principal, Dr Sadhna Kaushik, said a four-member committee has been formed to find out who put the severed leg under the patient’s head. “Head of department of surgery Dr Rajeev  Sinha will head the committee and it will give its report in 48 hours. Action will be based on the findings of the report,” she said.

The government spokesperson said the staff who have been suspended are Dr Alok Agarwal (senior resident - orthopaedics), Dr Mahendra Pal Singh (emergency medical officer), sister in-charge Deepa Narang and Shashi Srivastava, a nurse.

Ghanshyam was a cleaner of the school bus which, on its way to the institute, overturned in Mauranipur, 65 km from Jhansi, as the driver tried to avoid a collision with a tractor-trolley. He lost his leg in the accident and was sent to the medical college after preliminary treatment at a local health centre.
