Defending his Government Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that maintaining law and order was the priority of his Government and was taking all steps to ensure crime was brought under control. “Most of the crimes reported recently are of personal nature which police cannot control before hand. The police have been able to control all the big crime. The police have busted crime syndicate and is able to control communal violence,” Yadav told reporters here on Wednesday.

Chief Minister said that Opposition parties were making hue and cry just to defame the government. “The situation is not so bad as projected by opposition leaders. Police were doing everything to control the crime,” he said. He got a support from his father Mulayam Singh Yadav who defended his son’s government saying UP’s law and order was better than many other states in the country.

“UP ki jansankhya 21 crore ke uper hai aur yaha ka kanoon vyavastha sabse acchi hai anya pradesho se (UP has a population of over 21 crore and the law and order situation is better in comparison to other states),’’ said Yadav while commenting on the law and order situation of the state.

Yadav Sr., who went to the residence of former UP and Uttarakhand chief minister Narain Dutt Tiwari here too blamed the Opposition parties for defaming the Samajwadi Party.’’ Woh log to Samajwadi Party ke peche hi par gaye ha,’’ he said. When asked about the tainted UP mining minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, party chief defended him saying there is allegations against the minister and nothing else. “Such charges can be made against anyone but it should have some evidence,’ he said.

Yadav Sr, however, refused to comment on the proposed reshuffle in the UP ministry. “ Ask this question to the CM as he will take a call on the matter,” he said. Yadav Sr had gone to the residence of  Tiwari to invite him in the marriage of his grand -nephew Tej Pratap Singh with RJD President lalu Prasad Yadav’s youngest daughter on February 16 in New Delhi.
