Acceding to the demand of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the sensational killing of Umashankar Maurya in Sultanpur. The victim’s family members have been agitating with the body for the last three days demanding justice.

An official spokesperson said on Monday that the CM recommended a CBI probe on the demand of the victim’s family. Earlier on Sunday, the BSP members staged a major protest in the UP Assembly over the grisly murder of Maurya three days back. leader of the Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya raised the issue in the Assembly and informed the House that the victim’s family had refused to cremate the body demanding action against the culprits after which the government assured to take appropriate action in this regard.

last Friday, BSP leader and brick kiln owner Umashanker Maurya was gunned down in the Chanda block of Sultanpur. Barely six months back, Umashankar’s elder brother Ramashanker was also murdered but no one was arrested for the killing.

The Chief Minister had immediately announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation and a gun licence for the family after Ramashanker’s murder - but both promises were yet to be fulfilled.

The recent murder is stated to a be a concerted effort to pass Ramashanker’s killing as a one off thing as his brother Umashankar was building up pressure for the arrest of the assasin. The CM has once again announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family members of Umashankar.
