Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav did his “mann ki baat” with farmers and assured that his government would do everything to ameliorate the grievances of farming community. “I belong to farmers’ family therefore we are familiar with the plight of farmers. At this time of crisis the Samajwadi Party Government is with you and will try to extend all help to the farming community,” Yadav told farmers through a video conferencing here on Wednesday.

The video conferencing continued for at least half an hour in which farmers poured their hearts out about the problems they are facing. Some of them said that they are not getting support from officials and they were not listening to them despite many queries. Chief Minister suggested that officers should adopt one village each. They should ensure farmers are getting basic facilities in these villages. “This will not only improve the delivery system but also guarantee that actual beneficiaries will get the benefit of government scheme,” Yadav said.

He said during their field visits officers should take experts to the villages and try to solve farmers’ problems there and then. “The Samajwadi party Government is observing this year as Kisan Varsh. We have launched new schemes so that its benefit could reach the farmers. Samajwadis always believe that farmers should get maximum benefit and we are working in this direction,” Chief Minister said. During his interaction farmers from Kannauj said that they had a bumper potato crop this year.

Fearing their crop would be purchased by middle men at throw away price the farmers pleaded that state government should purchase their produce. Chief Minister assured the farmers that Government will try to find a mid path. Kannauj is the Parliamentary constituency of Dimple Yadav, wife of Chief Minister. “The Agra-lucknow expressway will pass through Kannauj. Once this highway becomes operational a potato mandi will come up there. This will solve half of farmers’ problems,” he said.
