Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of Emergency on Sunday, fiercely attacked the opposition parties for attempting to forge an alliance ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at an event held at Noida Stadium, Chief Minister Yogi said that people doing politics in the name of Jayaprakash Narayan and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia were with the Congress today that tried to smother democracy by declaring Emergency in the country on June 25, 1975. He said that on the one hand India had touched new heights of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the other Pakistan that separated from India was struggling for every loaf of bread and would have the same fate which the mafia had in Uttar Pradesh because of its misdeeds.
The chief minister paid tributes to all known and unknown persons who fought to safeguard the country’s democracy.
Chief Minister Yogi said that Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Janata Dal (United) and parties that claimed to be followers of JP were colluding with those who were responsible for strangling democratic values during the Emergency period.
“Samajwadi Party has a long history of extending support even without parties asking for it. In 2004, the Congress did not want the support of the Samajwadi Party, still the party, the leader of the Chipko movement, supported them,” he remarked.
He said that in the last nine years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a new direction to the country under his visionary leadership with positive thinking.
Yogi said that as Kashi, with its divine aura, was gaining prestige on the global platform, Ayodhya too was shining as a new Ayodhya. “Every devotee of Sanatan dharma and well-wisher of India in the world is waiting for January 2024, when Lord Ram Lalla will sit in his grand temple,” he added.
He said that India was the only country which was giving free ration to its 80 crore citizens for the last three and a half years. “If India’s journey continues like this, by 2027 it will become the world’s third largest economy,” he remarked.
Chief Minister Yogi said that in the Amrit Kaal of Independence, India was dominating the global stage with two major achievements – getting the presidency of G-20 and emerging as the fifth largest economy in the world.
Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday observed ‘Black Day’ across Uttar Pradesh to mark 48 years since the Emergency was imposed in 1975 by the then Congress government led by former prime minister Indira Gandhi. The Emergency remained in force from June 25, 1975, until its withdrawal on March 21, 1977.
