CM asks official to improve infrastructure

Biswajeet, PNS

With an aim to give a boost to cycling Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked officials to improve infrastructure so that people could use bicycles in their daily life.

“There is need to improve infrastructure in form of cycle tracks so that people could use bicycles in their daily lives. Roads should be constructed in such a way that we can have cycle tracks and these should be painted in red colour,” Chief Minister said in a statement issued here on Friday.

He said the people are eager to use cycles but the basic point we lack is having good cycle tracks in UP. These are coming up in lucknow and Agra. But there is a need to have such tracks in all the important cities of the state, he said.

“The cycles not only improve health of an individual but also protect environment. So there is a need to promote cycling,” he said.

However, cycle is an election symbol of Samajwadi Party.

Chief Secretary of the state Alok Ranjan said that directives have been issued to have cycle parking facilities in all the railway stations, metro stations and other public utility centres.

“The divisional commissioners have been asked to set up committees that will identify the area where cycle tracks could be constructed,” he said.
