Concerned about the alarming rise in novel coronavirus infection cases in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked Medical Education Minister Suresh Khanna to monitor the current situation of oxygen supply and its projected use in the next 15 days.
Yogi Adityanath, who is in self-isolation after testing positive for coronavirus infection, made a comprehensive review with senior officials on Sunday to ensure adequate medical grade oxygen supply in the state amid a massive surge in demand for critical COVID-19 patients.
"Uninterrupted supply of oxygen should be ensured in all the hospitals for the next 36 hours and oxygen cylinders should be regularly replaced in all the districts," the chief minister said.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while reviewing the current availability of oxygen in the state, asked Medical Education Minister Suresh Khanna to access the demand, review the availability of medical oxygen and maintain its adequate supply on a daily basis to ensure synergy across hospitals and the state government.
"Continuous supply of oxygen to Covid hospitals in all districts must be ensured. The control room set up by the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department in this connection should remain active 24 hours," the chief minister said.
To cater to the increased demand of oxygen amid the surge in cases of coronavirus infection in UP, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the officials to set up 10 oxygen plants in the state.
On the direction of the chief minister, the health minister and additional chief secretary (health) have begun identifying locations to set up such plants. The chief minister also instructed DG (medical education) to provide oxygen cylinders to the institutions where there are no ICU beds but lack oxygen.
"Besides this, the availability of medical personnel, Covid beds, medicines, medical equipment and oxygen should always be maintained in every district," Yogi said, adding the government should be informed about every need.
