A day after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav admitted the inability of government hospitals in providing medicare to the entire population of UP, the Samajwadi Party said that efforts were being made to prevent migration of doctors by offering attractive renumerations and relaxing service conditions for augmenting the state-run health services. While inaugurating a private hospital in lucknow on Tuesday, the CM had made the above statement and termed the state-run hospitals and its services far below the private hospitals which forced the common people to go to private hospitals.

SP spokesman, Rajendra Choudhary said that with the relaxation in service conditions and abolition of minimum age of 40 years for recruitment of doctors in government hospitals will attract doctors in joining the state-run health services.

Earlier this week the All India democratic women’s Association (AIDWA) had drawn the attention of the state government towards the large number of vacancies in government hospitals and absence of doctors in most Primary Health Centres in rural areas. The AIDWA had said as many as 37 percent posts in PHCs and 16 per cent posts in Community Health Centres (CHCs) were vacant.  The outfit had said that in UP one doctor is available for a population of 19,000 while the national average is one doctor for 12,000 people.
