In an oblique reference to gangster-turned politician Mukhtar Ansari, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that those who brought Mau’s law and order on ‘wheelchairs’ during festivals were now moving on wheelchairs.
Addressing a public meeting in Mau, the chief minister said, “This is the same district where Ramlila could not be organised, and Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governments allowed professional criminals and mafia to create chaos in their regimes. Since the double-engine government assumed power in Uttar Pradesh, these professional criminals can now be seen on wheelchairs.”
The chief minister appealed to the residents of Mau, stating that a third engine was necessary for unbiased overall development.
He emphasised the need for funds designated for the construction of houses and toilets to be directly credited to the accounts of the underprivileged. He also stated that the Ujjwala Yojana must provide the poor with cooking gas connections, and they should receive health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh. Additionally, the government should address waterlogging and ensure that every household has access to clean drinking water through a piped connection.
The chief minister further added that the elected board would be responsible for implementing these provisions.
Pointing out the situation before 2017, the chief minister said, “At that time, in our cities, there was the terror of miscreants, women were not safe. Piles of filth were visible in the urban areas. Today, our cities are seen as smart cities and not heaps of garbage. There is no terror of criminals, and cities are being developed into safe cities.”
The chief minister said that the double-engine government had run many programmes in Mau. “Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), 17,655 houses were approved in Mau district alone. Under the PM SVANidhi Yojana, the work of giving interest-free loans to 8,930 street vendors was done. The double engine government is giving the benefit of Rs 12,000 annual pension facility to 12407 destitute women, 11,809 differently-abled (divyangjans), and 12,633 elderly people.”
“Nagar panchayat Kurthi Jafarpur has been created while two nagar panchayats have been expanded. The area of Maunath Bhanjan municipality has also been expanded. With Rs 27 crores, the work of providing pure drinking water to 37,000 households under the Har Ghar Nal Yojana has also been done,” he added.
The chief minister assured that there would never be a lack of funds for the development projects that have already begun in this area.
