Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department officials to ensure that the interest of the farmers was taken care of during wheat procurement as per minimum support price for the current Rabi season.

The chief minister asked the officials to ensure that farmers did not face any inconvenience in selling the wheat to the official procurement agencies.

Wheat procurement has commenced in the state from April 1.

Reviewing the wheat procurement on Friday, Yogi Adityanath said three days in a week should be reserved for small and marginal farmers for purchase of their wheat. He said facility of on the spot registration should be provided to small and marginal farmers at the procurement centres.

The chief minister directed the district magistrates to constitute special teams for inspection of the wheat procurement centres and submit daily reports to the state government.

The Uttar Pradesh government, in the wake of the ongoing farmers' protest, has geared up to purchase wheat directly from farmers. For the first time in many decades, the government has set no target for procurement of wheat from the farmers. The procurement, which commenced on April 1, will continue till the stocks last with the farmers.

The wheat is being purchased at minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,975 per quintal for the 2021-22 seasons, an increase of Rs 50 per quintal than last year

Against the usual 3,400-3,600 procurement centres across the state, the government has almost doubled their numbers to 6,000.
