lakhs of employees of the state and Central governments and teachers staged massive dharnas and rallies at all district headquarters on Thursday.
They were demanding revival of the old pension scheme for government employees and officers and pension for teachers of government colleges who joined service after April 1, 2005.
UP Diploma Engineers’ Sangh president Hari Kishore Tewari, who led the dharna in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi, said over phone that a joint forum of 52 associations of state and Central government employees and teachers was agitating for restoration of old pension scheme for the last over two years.
Tewari said that on Thursday, several thousand employees and teachers staged dharnas outside all district headquarters. He said the agitation would be intensified if the old pension scheme was not restored for Central and state employees.
The joint forum leaders handed over a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and requested him to look into their demands and also pursue the matter with the Centre for an early redressal.
