If the CBI is as autonomous as claimed by its Director befor Suprem Court, then it should probe Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in connection with the coalgate scam.
The CBI is a caged parrot of Congress but it becomes a vulture for the Opposition.
This was stated by BJP national general secretary, Anant Kumar, who was in lucknow to take stock of preparedness for the BJP stir against the corruption, price rise and atrocities on women scheduled from May 27.
Addressing media persons, the BJP leader raised serious doubts about the functioning of the CBI and claimed it could get autonomy only when the BJP-led NDA comes to power.
Anant Kumar pointed out that while CBI conducted its probe at a rapid pace in the 'Railgate' scam, it belied logic as to why it failed to proceed in the same speed and dragged its feet in the 'Coalgate' scam.
" No coal minister, including two former ministers Dasari Narayan Rao and Santosh Bargodia and the present incumbent Shrprakash Jaiswal, have been quizzed by the CBI. When the allotment of coal blocks were cancelled, it indicates that some thing wrong was done. Soe one has to be held accountable for the mess. When the Prime Minister was coal minister between 2006-09, why shuld he not be held responsible," querried Kumar.
The BJP leader said that unless Dr Singh resigned, the probe into the 'Coalgate' scam will never reach at a logical conclusion as the CBI reports to him.
In response to a question, Kumar said that the CBI was a caged parrot only for the ruling Congress while it was like a vulture for the Opposition.
Asked to comment on BJP's dismal perfomance in Assembly polls in Karnataka - his native place, Anant Kumar said that the BJP did not compomise with corruption and paid a political price.
In response to another querry, he categorically denied that there was any proposal of reinducting former Karnatak CM BS Yediyurappa into the party fold.
