PNS

To avail a double whammy of escaping punishment in a murder case and to gain Rs 45 lakh through insurance claim, a carpet manufacturing unit owner planted his own 'death'.

But lady luck refused to smile on him as he had to pay the price for killing two persons. The man died due to alleged `torture’ in police custody at Badaun early Friday morning.

Taking serious note, SP of Badaun Mahendra Yadav suspended Station Officer of Islamnagar, a constable head clerk and a constable on Guard duty at the police station.  A case was also registered in this regard and investigations are on.

As per reports, Zainul Abedin (36) of Sahbazpur in Sahaswan area of Badaun was involved in the sensational murder of Qamar Umar in 2009. The Sahaswan police investigated the case and recovered the murder weapon - a knife, from Abedin. The trial in the case was completed and the judge was set to announce his verdic in the wake of strong evidences against the accused.

As per the police, Abedin and his wife Praveen hit upon a unique plan to get a double bonanza for the family. They planned to kill someone else and later torch him inside their car which was to be reported by Praveen that her husband had died. This would not have helped Abedin from being convicted for Qamar’s but the family would get an insurance claim of Rs 40 lakh due to the 'death'.

As per plan, one person was killed and put on the driver’s seat of Abedin's car. The car was parked near Behta Phatak in Islamnagar and the vehicle was torched on July 10. The local pradhan lodged an FIR claiming that Aabdin had died in a mishap after the fire.

A week later, Aabdin’s wife Praveen, who identified the victim as her missing husband, lodged a report against unknown persons claiming that her husband had been murdered.

However the cops sensed foul play behind the drama and kept on tracing Aabdin and after painstaking surveillance, managed to lay their hands on the `dead’ Aabdin alive from Islamnagar area on Thursday evening. He was taken to the police station where the cops tried to extract information about the victim of the car blaze.

Sources said that after being subjected to torture, Aabdin broke down and claimed that his kin Rehan of Ghaziabad had brought his friend Salman, whom they killed and put his body on the driving seat before torching the vehicle.

After the startling disclosure, the cops tried to confirm the claim but before they could reach to Rehan in Ghaziabad, Asbdin's condition suddenly deteriorated. He was taken to a nearby government hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

later his family members staged an agitation claiming third degree measures adopted by the cops led to Aabdin's death.

Senior officers later suspended three cops including Station Officer of Islamnanagar police station. Efforts were on to arrest Rehan so that Aadin's theory of murdering Salman and torching him could be established.
