Bypoll for one RS seat on Sept 11

PNS

The Election Commission has announced byelection for one Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh on September 11.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Samajwadi Party member Amar Singh earlier this month.

Sources in the Election Commission here on Friday said that the notification for the bypoll would be issued on August 25 while the last date for filing nomination papers would be September 1.

Scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done on September 2 and the last date for withdrawal would be September 4.

If required, polling would be held on September 11 and the result would be declared on the same day.

This RS seat will be bagged by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its candidate is likely to be elected unopposed. The by-elections are won by the ruling party due to majority in the Assembly.

Amar Singh died after prolonged illness in Singapore on August 1.

The term of the RS seat is up to July 4, 2022.
