Main Opposition in the State Assembly, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), strongly opposed the inauguration of Janeshwar Park, Asia’s largest park on the birth anniversary of Samajwadi Party leader Janeshwar Mishra here by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday.
BSP president Mayawati, who herself built many parks and memorials in the name of Dalit scions, has alleged that SP has done nothing but just changed the name from Kashiram Ram park to Janeshwar park.’’Due to elections we could not inaugurate the park, but the SP government soon took the opportunity to change name after coming to power,’’ she alleged while claiming that it was not
healthy for a democratic country.
She said the SP government was trying to take all credit in the development of the park, which actually belonged to her government. The BSP leaders had taken to the city’s streets in 2012 to protest against renaming of the park. Contending that the 376-acre park was conceived by the previous Mayawati government, BSP general Secretary and leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya said the decision of the Akhilesh Yadav government had reduced the honour given to Dalit leaders to mockery.
