Reacting to the statement of former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav that “jungle raj” prevailed in Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit said that before giving such statements, the Samajwadi Party national president should realise that the BJP government favours death penalty for rapists.
“There is a contrast in the working of two governments. The BJP government wants sternest action against rapists while Samajwadi Party patriarch had once said that youths sometimes commit such mistakes,” BJP state spokesman Ashok Pandey said.
He was reacting to Akhilesh Yadav’s statement that the Tappal incident reminds one of jungle raj.
“This is nothing but jungle raj. The brutality committed on this girl shows that criminals have no fear of police. They know they can walk away after committing crime as is happening in Uttar Pradesh,” the Samajwadi Party president has said.
He was reacting to the brutal killing of a two-and-half year old girl, whose mutilated body, infested with maggots, was found in a garbage bin in Tappal town of Aligarh district.
The police say that no sign of sexual assault was reported. But the post-mortem report exposes the extent of mutilation her body was subjected to. The report says that vital organs like kidneys, urinary bladder and large and small intestines were missing. Her right arm was amputated and bones were exposed at places. It further says that left leg was found fractured and the body was highly decomposed “to the extent of blackening and peeling of skin from the body”.
Senior Congress leader Amarnath Agarwal said that his party had been saying that law and order had gone from bad to worse in UP.
Just after the Lok Sabha election, a political activist was shot dead in Azamgarh, another was killed in Amethi , two SP leaders were killed in Jaunpur, one in Noida and a trader was killed in Bijnor after he failed to pay extortion money, he pointed out.
“This happened after May 23. This is the Ram rajya BJP wishes to give to the people. What is more unfortunate that when the entire country was mourning the brutal killing of this girl, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was busy unveiling a statue of Lord Ram in Ayodhya,” Agarwal said, and added. “This shows the priority of this government.”
