BJP names new candidate for Kairana

PNS

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday announced the names of three more candidates for the Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.

As expected, the BJP did not give ticket to Mriganka Singh from Kairana Lok Sabha seat in west UP and replaced her with party MLA from Gangoh (Saharanpur) Pradeep Chaudhary.

Chaudhary is a Jat leader and before joining the BJP ahead of the 2017 UP Assembly polls, he was with the Congress and had won the Assembly election on the ticket of the grand old party.

Mriganka Singh is the daughter of former MP from Kairana, Hukum Singh. After her father’s death last year, she contested the by-election to Kairana seat in May 2018 but lost to Samajwadi Party candidate Tabassum Hasan who was supported Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal.

Earlier, in March, 2017, Mriganka Singh had lost the assembly election from Kairana seat to Nahid Hasan of SP.

The BJP also declared its candidates for Nagina and Bulandshahr parliamentary constituencies. The BJP has repeated sitting MPs Yashwant Singh and Bhola Singh from Nagina (SC) and Bulandshahr seats respectively.

With these three tickets, the BJP has now announced 31 candidates in UP, replacing six sitting MPs, including a Union minister. The party has now declared all its candidates for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in the state, voting for which will be held on April 11.

The candidates fielded by the BJP in the first phase are Raghav Lakhanpal (Saharanpur), Sanjeev Kumar Baliyan (Muzaffarnagar), Kunwar Bhartendra Singh (Bijnor), Rajendra Agrawal (Meerut), Satya Pal Singh (Baghpat), Vijay Kumar Singh (Ghaziabad), Mahesh Sharma (Gautam Buddha Nagar) and Pradeep Chaudhary (Kairana).
