The unprovoked killing of a multinational company executive by a policeman in the state capital has united the politician fraternity with Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Rajani Tiwari writing a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, requesting him to take action against the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Lucknow for not being sensitive to the plight of the victim’s family.
“The behaviour of the officials of local administration is highly deplorable. The local police told media that the accused have been arrested but later the main accused constable reached the police station and demanded that an FIR be registered against the executive who tried to kill him. This shows the insensitive face of the administration,” Tiwari said in the one-page letter she faxed to the Chief Minister’s office.
The opposition parties have also demanded action against the district officials, saying the police are trying to water down the case by filing a weak FIR against the accused.
Vivek Tiwari, an executive of Apple, was shot dead when he was going to drop his female friend at her home early Saturday morning. The killing has caused outrage.
The police claimed that the two accused cops had been terminated from service and had been arrested.
Talking to this reporter, the ruling party lawmaker said that she was moved by the plight of the victim’s family members.
“I saw the statement of the daughter of the deceased in which she said that the District Magistrate was asking her to say a particular thing. This is not the way to handle a sensitive case,” said Tiwari, who is lawmaker from Shahabad constituency in Hardoi.
“I feel that the behaviour of the district administration was partisan towards the accused. I feel the conduct of district officials was aimed at maligning the image of the government. I, being one of the 403 elected members of the Vidhan Sabha, feel myself as part of the government and such behaviour of the officials has hurt me the most,” Tiwari said.
The MLA said that she would talk to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday.
