Questioning BJP government’s decision to demolish temples in Varanasi Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP is betraying people on the name of religion and is using it for political gain.

“While on one side it is fighting for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya but on the other in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP government was demolishing temples on the name of development,” he said while addressing a press conference here.

Singh said the Varanasi authorities are demolishing the Bharat Mata, Ganeshjee and other temples which is not acceptable.

“The BJP leaders should clarify as why they are demolishing the temples,” he questioned.

Attacking BJP on the failure of the Narendra Modi government during the past four years of its tenure, he said now the BJP is raking up communal issues to win the 2019 elections. “As they have failed in all the fields and people will not vote them on development, hence Modi is now only trying to create communal disturbances in the country to divert the attention of the people,” he alleged.

Condemning the BJP and its other organisations for raking up Jinnah portrait issue in AMU, the AAP leader said, “Why did the BJP government not remove the portrait of Jinnah from Sabarmati Ashram.

“The portrait of Jinnah in AMU was more than 80 years old but now they are demanding its removal. This demand looks weird,” he said.
