As Bharatiya Janata Party is gearing up for local Bodies elections, statte president Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey said that the party would sweep the polls as 'people from rural to urban areas had made up their mind to vote for the BJP'.

"There is enthusiasm among people about the BJP. They know only the BJP can keep their ward or muhalla clean and therefore will vote for the party in the coming UlB elections,” Paney told 'The Pioneer' in lucknow on Wednesday.

The BJP chief said that even when the Opposition was in power, the BJP had won UlB elections. "Almost all Nagar Nigam elections were won by the BJP. This time they have seen Yogi government’s performance and his stress in keeping cities clean," Pandey said.

“The Swachchta Abhiyan (cleanliness campaign) launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a success and people are now talking about it. The Yogi Government has been able to take forward this campaign in UP and even make people to participate in the campaign. This has gone well with the people,” he said.

Pointing at the mob of people, majority of them being ticket seekers, assembled at party’s office on Wednesday morning, the BJP leader said that the crowd was a pointer to people’s mood. "They are leaders and have their fingers on people’s pulse. They know who is winning and therefore everyone wants ticket from the party," he said.

When asked when would the party declare candidates list, Pandey said that it will be done in a day or two. "Process to select candidates is on. Till now we have finaised candidates for 41 district units. Selection of candidates for the rest of the districts will be done tomorrow," he said.

On Wednesday, discussions were held for candidates for Kanpur and Bundelkhand regions. Selection of candidates for Mayoral candidates for Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Jhansi and Kanpur has almost been finalized.

“loyal BJP workers will be given tickets. Those workers who have shed sweat and tear for the party will be rewarded,” he said.

About Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Palika candidates, Pandey said, "The selection of candidates will be done by the regional party offices and the state will only give its final nod."
