Blaming state government for its apathetic attitude towards flood victims the state unit of Bharatriya Janata Party (BJP) said Akhilesh Government has failed to provide relief to the victims.
"The Government is giving cheques, that too have bounced, instead of essential materials like food, kerosene and other relief material to the flood ravaged people," party spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said here on Monday.
Uttar Pradesh is facing flood in 44 out of 78 districts affecting over 11.7 lakh people.
"It is the face of insensitive government that has come to the fore. Over 300 people have died in rains or flood. This number is mounting every day but the Government is failed to provide relief to the people," he said in his daily press briefing.
Pathak said the State Government has claimed that Government is proving relief to the people. "This relief is available only on papers. People are staving because they
have nothing to eat. In some places Government gave cheques that too have bounced," BJP spokesman said.
He said it would be better if ministers in the Akhilesh Yadav Government themselves carry out an inspection of the flood affected villages. "They will get the first hand information which will help in better distribution of relief material," he said.
