Bharatiya Janata Party corporators from Lucknow (East) assembly constituency have urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to contest the next assembly election from this particular seat of the state capital.

At present Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon ‘Gopalji’ is the sitting legislator from Lucknow East constituency.

The demand was made by BJP corporator of Maithlisharan ward, Dilip Srivastava, in a letter written to the chief minister on Friday.

“If Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath contests from Lucknow East it will demolish the opposition calculations and besides Lucknow, the BJP’s victory in Sitapur and Barabanki regions will be ensured. It will also send out a positive message across the political spectrum. There are 22 municipal wards in the Lucknow (East) Assembly constituency of which 13 have BJP corporators. My letter to the chief minister is from all the BJP corporators. We all want Yogi ji to contest from here,” Srivastava said in his letter, which was released to the media on Friday evening.

The BJP leadership has asked senior party leaders to contest the 2022 assembly elections. After this directive, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Dr Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya are also expected to contest the polls. All these three leaders are at present Members of the Legislative Council.

Meanwhile, BJP legislator from Ayodhya, Ved Gupta, has offered his seat to Yogi. Dr Sharma and Maurya are expected to contest from assembly constituencies in Lucknow and Kaushambi districts.

There is also a demand that Yogi should contest the assembly election from Gorakhpur from where he had won the parliamentary elections before being elevated as the chief minister of UP in 2017.

Sitting BJP legislator from Lucknow East and presently Urban Development Minister, Ashutosh Tandon, was not available for his comment.
