BJP accuses Govt, police of inaction

Biswajeet, PNS

Blaming state government for the communal riot in Muzaffarnagar in which 21 people lost their lives the Bharatiya Janata party said that it was the anger of the people that spilled over after Government failed to impart justice to aggrieved people.

Senior BJP leader Hukum Singh said that despite Muzzaffarnagar was simmering for almost 10 days the district administration waited for the worst to happen and when it happened it is looking for excuse.Singh, who is a local political leader, blamed UP government and the police for the violence and said that one-sided action by the police was the main reason for spread of violence in the district.

"Political interference to appease people of a particular community was the main reason for the communal clash," he said and added at least 24 people have died in the clash so far. "The situation is explosive in the rural areas while police was yet to take action against the people who used firearms," he said.

BJP Muzaffarnagar district president Satypal Singh said  an incident of eve-teasing on August 27 has led to such a big communal violence due to the slackness of the district administration. He said that the situation in the rural areas is more critical as people of several villages have fled apprehending violence.

On the other hand BJP has questioned the UP government over the handling of the situation in Muzaffarnagar. ''The government took the matter very lightly even after the communal violence in Tanda (Ambedknagar) and in  Faizabad. When DGP himself is camping in Muzaffarnagar how the situation went out of control,'' questioned UP BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak.

He alleged that more than  40 communal violence was reported during the 18 month rule of the Akhilesh Yadav government still the state police is lagging in the field of intelligence and other security arrangements. He also questioned that when the situation was not good why the panchayats were allowed to be organised.
