The Bharatiya Janata Party created a din in the state assembly on Tuesday over the issue of cow slaughter and did not allow proceedings of the House to continue over the comment of minister when he said BJP members a part of cow slaughters’ gang.
“The comment of the minister was inappropriate and he should apologies immediately,” leader of BJP legislature party Suresh Kumar Khanna said as other members of the BJP trooped inside the well of the House.Despite two adjournments the BJP stuck to its point forcing the Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey to rush through the agenda and adjourn the House for the day.
The issue of cow slaughter reached such a boiling point that at one point of time Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Azam Khan asked BJP members as why Union Government has failed to stop export of meat. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has talked about pink revolution during election campaign. The Government is almost 5 month old now. What happened to that promise,” he asked. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too intervened to say that Central government cannot ban slaughter of animals. If it does so what will happen to leather and pharmaceutical industries.
Agitated Khanna almost shouted at the top of his voice: “The NDA Government will close all these slaughter houses and ban export of meat from India.” The issue all of a sudden became so volatile that Azam Khan mentioned about Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpuir and Kaanth and how BJP used these issues to gain political mileage. As war of words intensified the Speaker adjourned the House. The issue was raised during the question hour when Satish Mahana and lokesh Singh (both BJP) asked about government steps to stop cow slaughter. Aniumal Husbandry Minister Raj Kishore said that cow slaughter has come to an end and there is increase in cow’s population in the state.
When the BJP members pressed their charges the Minister said that they (BJP leaders) seems to be part of that gang which steals animals and then sell them off to slaughter houses. “This remark is inappropriate and the minister should withdraw this statement and apologies,” BJP legislature party leader said. Despite Speaker’s assurance that he would go through the proceedings and if the statement was found inappropriate it would be withdraw it, BJP continued with its protest. With on option left the Speaker went through the agenda and adjourned the House for the day.
