Azad accuses RSS of spreading canard against UPA govt

Senior Congress leader and Union Health minister Gulam Nabi Azad accused Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) of spreading “propaganda” that UPA government was a failure and alleged that the outfit in a similar drive in 1977 “misled” Muslims over “forced vasectomy” which led to the party’s defeat.

``RSS had spread a canard of forced vasectomy before lok Sabha polls in 1977, which was totally fabricated well planned move of communal forces to defame than Indira Gandhi led Congress government and they also succeeded as Muslims went against us. Similarly this time a propaganda is being spread by same forces and in a more organised manner terming not just UPA government but entire Congress led rule as a total failure,” Azad told reporters here. He made above observation while replying to a question whether there was a 1977 like “wave of change” when Congress lost all lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday afternoon, Azad disclosed that during emergency the RSS used their activists in propaganda on the trains and this time they are using aircraft and media to hype their tirade. The Union minister also blamed the electronic news channels for defaming the UPA government by putting almost ‘ ban’ on the news about the development of the country. “The news channels were only interested in just controversial statements of the leaders rather than showing what the country has got in the last ten years,” Azad said adding that the manner in which the media projected UPA government showed that not a single development work has been done by his Party led government. ``When Indian electronic media is totally not interested in showing developmental and progressive stories, I don’t know from where we will brought someone who at least show both sides of the story and was not hijacked in the name of TRP”.

Azad, however, refused to make any comment on whether Congress will constitute a probe into the alleged Rs 10,000 crore expenditure on BJP’s poll campaign and just said,” I don’t want to make any comment on remarks of individual”. It may be mentioned that Modi dared Congress to enquire if he had invested Rs 10,000 crore on campaign. When asked over his reaction on Modi’s statement that probe would be ordered against Gandhi family particularly against Robert Vadra if BJP come to power, Azad reacted and said ,”isi leya ganje ko nakhun nahi hona chaiye.”

Reacting to hijacking of Centre sponsored scheme by Uttar Pradesh Government like in health services in which SP named at after``Samajwadi Swasthya Sewaye”, Azad said that though it is not fair but he said that this trend has been started by BJP led Gujarat government which first changed the name of the Central health schemes followed by Himachal Pradesh. ``The BJP led states like Gujrat, Himachal and then some other states hijacked our government’s scheme and named it after their former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s name”, he claimed adding that SP was the last which changed the name of Central scheme. He said that UPA during its ten year of regime had given additional fund to the tune of Rs 15299 crores to improve its health system but Centre never not get the credit.

``We never get credit of making a revolution in health services across the country particularly UP but what hurts us most is that instead the media was projecting that as if we had done nothing in last 10-years of rule”, Azad said. He not took name of media but indirectly said that the entire scenario to defame UPA government has been masterminded by the bosses of RSS just to boost the victory of BJP as they had nothing else to project before the public.
