Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi retired from services on Wednesday evening.

Soon after his superannuation, the government asked Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sanjay Prasad, to take the additional charge of Home department from Awasthi.

Sources said that the announcement of Awasthi’s successor was likely to be made in the next few days.

Besides ACS (Home), the other top position of law and order in Uttar Pradesh, the post of DGP, is also to be filled by the government as at present, DG (Intelligence) Devendra Singh Chauhan is holding additional charge of DGP after Mukul Goel was shunted out by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Awanish Awasthi, one of the officers close to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was initially made additional chief secretary, information and tourism, as well as the CEO of UPEIDA.
