The supporters and opponents of the reservation in promotion for the schedule caste employees took out procession in state capital on Thursday.
The motor cycle rally of the Arakshan bachao samiti, fighting for the restoration of the facility of reservation in promotion for the SC employees was flagged of by the senior BSP leader Swami Prasad maurya who is also the leader of opposition in state assembly. The rally beginning from Ramabai Park on Kanpur road and covering a distance of 20 km concluded at Samajik Parivartan Sthal at Gomti nagar.
The Sarvajan Hitay Samiti, fighting against the reservation in promotion from Parivartan Chowk to GPO Park. The opponents of the reservation threatened to go on flash strike if attempts are made to get the constitution (117thamendment) bill passed from the lok Sabha. The bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2013. The resolution adopted at the GPO park meeting said 18 lakh state employees, teachers and power employees would go on strike without notice.
Aarakshan bachao samiti raised the slogan against the dalit MlAs and MPs asking them to come out openly in support of their demand for the passage of the Constitution amendment bill by the lok Sabha. They raised the slogans RsDalit Vidhayak chupee todo’ and Dalit Sansad Kursi chodo’. Both the rallies were taken out amid the heavy deployment of the police and PAC jawans.
The dalit officers and employees were promoted in large numbers during the previous BSP regime in the state. They were given the benefit of reservation in promotion thus superseding their colleagues. The government order was challenged in the lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court which quashed the order. The then Mayawati government challenged the high court order in Supreme Court which upheld the high court order in April 2012.
The Apex court had set September 15 as the deadline for the compliance of its order. Following the courts order over 15,000 Sc officers and employees were reverted and also affecting the seniority of close to one lakh officers and employees. The SC officers and employees are agitating since then for the restoration of the facility of reservation in promotion for the dalit employees.
