The entire Opposition staged a walkout of the Assembly on Tuesday, after minister Anupuma Jaiswal declared that the government has no proposal to regularize the services of Anganwadi workers.

Though the minister stated that a committee has been formed to consider the hike in wages of Aanganwadi workers and their helpers for which an announcement was expected on March 23, yet Opposition members were on their feet demanding regularisation of Anganbadi workers.

Opposition members walked out in a phased manner. It started with Congress, followed by Samajwadi Party and then by Bahujan Samaj Party members.

The Opposition alleged that during 2017 Assembly polls, the BJP had promised in their poll manifesto to regularise services of Anganwadi workers, but now they were reneging on their commitment.

Replying to a question of Aditi Singh (Congress), the minister said that the honorarium of Anganwadi workers has been increased from the existing Rs 3000 to Rs 4000 per month. “The government has set up a high-level committee headed by Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) and they will decide on the demands of Anganwadi workers,” she said.

The Congress member however argued that that UP was paying very less to Anganwadi workers as compared to other states.  She also said that every year Anganwadi workers demonstrate in lucknow to press for their demands, yet no government has done anything for them.

leader of the Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary demanded that the monthly wage of Anganbadi workers should be Rs 25,000.

As the government persisted with statement, the Opposition members staged a walkout.
