In another shame on khaki in Lalitpur, the cops, at the behest of a tantric, took a woman as ‘thief’ and brutally tortured her after locking her inside a room. They also allegedly stripped her to force her to accept ‘her crime’.

As per reports, a 30-year-old woman, Pooja (name changed) of Mohalla Kharwanchpura under Mahroni police station, works as a cook and maid at the house of head constable clerk Anshu Patel, posted at Mahroni police station. She started working in the house of the head constable clerk located near the post office from April 14 last.

On May 2, Pooja, who had gone to cook food in Patel’s house, was stopped by the cop’s wife who also called her husband. It may be mentioned here that at the behest of a tantrik, Patel suspected Pooja to be involved in a theft in his house.

Patel subsequently left for his home and also took female Sub-Inspector Parul Chandel with him. Much to the shock of Pooja, the cops started questioning her about the theft in Patel’s house. When Pooja claimed that she was innocent, both the cops locked her in the room from 8 o'clock in the night last Monday and started beating her with belts. During this, she was constantly showered with water, and though she kept pleading the cops would not listen. Patel also abused Pooja and kept threatening her to confess her hand in the theft. When this did not work, the cops forced her to confess to the crime and beat her with belts after stripping her in a closed room overnight.

The incident reportedly came to the knowledge of senior officers and they are looking into the allegation. Both the cops, however, denied the allegation.

In another incident, a 15-year-old girl in Fatehpur district allegedly consumed poison and died on Wednesday, a day after she was raped by a man, police said.

The incident took place at a village under Chandpur police station of the Fatehpur district. The teenaged Dalit girl had gone to answer nature's call in a forested area near her village on Tuesday evening when she was allegedly raped by a man of her village, Fatehpur’s Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh said.

The accused have been arrested.

When the girl did not return home till late in the night, her parents launched a search for her and found her in the forest in a state of disarray, the SP said.

Her family members took her to a private doctor and brought her back home after treatment. The girl, however, consumed some poisonous substance out of despair on Wednesday evening and died during treatment, the SP said.

The police official said after registering a case on the complaint of the girl's parents, the accused man had been taken into custody for questioning.

The girl's body was sent for autopsy and further probe was underway.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly abducted and raped in a village in Mirzapur following which the accused was arrested, police said.

The woman was abducted and taken to a secluded place by a man on Tuesday where he allegedly raped her, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sanjiv Bajpai said on Thursday.

According to the police, the woman was found lying unconscious and bleeding in a field by her family members on Wednesday. When the villagers saw blood stains on the clothes of the accused, they nabbed him and he confessed to his crime.

The accused was arrested later in the night. The woman was admitted to a hospital and her condition was said to be stable.
