In a bizarre move, an undertrial attempted suicide by slashing his throat in front of a judge inside a Rae Bareli court on Friday morning.
The victim, who alleged torture by jail officials as reason for his extreme step, was rushed to the district hospital in a serious condition. The police registered a case in this regard and was investigating but no action was initiated against any jail official till late Friday evening.
Senior jail officials assured to look into the allegations and initiate criminal proceedings and departmental action against any one found guilty. However, they were at a loss of words to explain how the undertrial could lay his hands on a blade while in judicial custody.
It may be mentioned here that NRHM accused and Deputy CMO YS Sachan commiited suicide inside lucknow district jail by inflicting multiple cuts on his body with a blade.
As per reports, Dilshad of Shakti Nagar area of Mill Area police station of Rae Bareli was arrested in a theft case and was later lodged in the district jail. Inside the jail, some jail guards and others harassed him and demanded money which he could not fulfill.
While he was produced before the judge on Friday morning, Dilshad revealed that on Thursday night, he weas severely beaten up and also hande dout life threats as he refused to bow to the illegal demands of the jail staff. The inmate broke down while recounting his tale of horror. Even as those in the court room wached him in shock, Dilshad took out ablade and slashed his throat inside the court. The cops informed his kin about the the incident.
