Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav will lay the foundation of the memorial and park spreading over more than eight acres for party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav in his native village Saifai in Etawah district on Wednesday.
The architecture of the memorial is inspired by the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC which honours former US president Abraham Lincoln. The foundation stone of the memorial will be laid by Akhilesh Yadav on November 22, the birth anniversary of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Akhilesh Yadav said the party would get the memorial built by 2027 – the year Uttar Pradesh will see its next assembly election.
Sharing details of the proposed memorial, senior SP leader Uday Pratap Singh said the memorial-cum-park would come up on a land parcel of 8.3 acres, out of which 4.5 acres would be set aside for the park.
He said the plan of the memorial would reflect folk culture while giving a glimpse into the life and times of the SP patriarch, his ideology and his politics for which an art gallery and a museum would also be built.
