Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, on Wednesday, slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for holding a cabinet meeting at Mahakumbh Nagar in Prayagraj district.
All ministers in the Yogi Adityanath council of ministers led by by the chief minister met at Mahakumbh Nagar on Wednesday.
“Kumbh or Prayagraj is not a place where politics or political decisions should be taken,” Akhilesh Yadav said after paying floral tributes to veteran socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra here on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “Kumbh or Prayagraj is not the place where politics or political decisions should be taken. To organise a cabinet meeting at Kumbh is political. Many of us (Samajwadi Party people) must have gone to take a holy dip but did not post pictures on social media or shared the details with the media,”
Expressing his apprehensions on free and fair elections in bypoll in Milkipur assembly constituency in Ayodhya district, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party government was misusing the state machinery and police for influencing the election.
He also questioned the proceedings of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Waqf Bill, which was held in Lucknow on Tuesday and met representatives of Muslim religious organisations and the state government.
“The BJP government is sowing the seeds of dissensions in society by creating new disputes on Waqf properties as their sole agenda is to spread hatred. The BJP leaders want to capture the Waqf properties in the state,” the SP chief alleged.
This is not the first time that Chief Minister Yogi has led his cabinet to the Sangam. During the Kumbh in 2019, the meeting of the council of ministers was held in Prayagraj. During the Narayan Dutt Tewari-led Congress government in 1988, the cabinet meeting was held at Kumbh, then Allahabad district.
