Rashtriya lok Dal (RlD) on Saturday released a list of star campaigners for Kairana lok Sabha bypoll and the list included Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, senior SP leader Azam Khan among others.
The list has 40 star campaigners which also incldued former Rajya Sabha member Amir Alam Khan, Nawazish Alam and SP leader Nahid Hassan.
SP leaders included as star campaigners include - Kiranmayi Nanda, Surendra Nagar, Balram Yadav, Naresh Uttam, Sunil lathar, Rajendra Chaudhary, Ahmed Hassan, Kamal Akhtar, Sunil Yadav, Brajesh Yadav and Pradeep.
However , leaders like former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav, SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav and SP leader Shivpal Yadav are not on the list.
The by-poll was necessitated by the death of sitting BJP MP Hukum Singh and his daughter Mriganka Singh became the obvious choice of the BJP brass to constest the seat. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also expected to hold rallies in Kairana ahead of the bypoll.
The SP and RlD have also decided to share stages for joint campaigns after a gap of 14 years. The strategy is to woo Muslims and Jats from a single platform, thereby consolidating their votes.
RlD vice-president Jayant Chaudhary is likely to meet SP chief Akhilesh Yadav soon to finalize the dates and venues of joint rallies in Kairana lok Sabha and Noorpur Assembly seats where voting is scheduled on May 28.
Kairana lok Sabha seat has around 17 lakh voters, including three lakh Muslims, four lakh backward castes (Jat, Gujjar, Saini, Kashyap, Prajapati and others) and about 1.5 lakh Dalits. Voting for the bypolls will be held on May 28 and the results will be declared on May 31.
RlD sources said that party chief Ajit Singh may not attend joint rallies but could hold separate meetings in various Assembly segments of Kairana. The joint rallies hold electoral significance in west UP which witnessed communal strife between Jats and Muslims in Muzaffarnagar in 2013.
