In a terse message Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav asked power officials to improve power generation and also enquired about the reasons behind frequent tripping of transmission generators leading to fall in power production.
Government spokesman told The Pioneer here on Tuesday that Yadav asked as why Anpara thermal power project was facing frequent problems. “If the generators needs to be replaced these should be done in a routine manner. Why officials should wait till the machines conked out,” Yadav asked officials in a meeting here on Tuesday.
The generator of Unit 4 of the Anpara thermal project developed snag on July 4 while its unit number 5 conked out on Saturday last. Both these units generate 500 MW electricity each. Officials say these machines were working non stop for over 20 years and needed immediate rest and repairs.
Chief Minister said that such machines should be identified which need repair and need replacement. These should be replaced within the stipulated time so that state does not face such crisis again.
Yadav was informed that the state was trying to meet the shortfall by purchasing extra electricity from different sources. “The state purchased 370 MW of electricity to meet the demand,” the official said.
The state is getting 10,313 MW electricity on Tuesday. Of this, thermal production in state-run power stations is 1576 MW of which Obra generated 244 MW, Anpara 428 MW, Panki 126 MW, Haruaganj 248 MW and Parichcha 530 MW. The hydel generaion was 740 MW.
“The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation ltd imported 6033 MW electricity from central pool. Besides, state got 30 MW from co-generation while purchased electricity from Roza (864 MW), Bajaj Energy (320 MW) and lanco (750 MW).
