All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) said that it had no say in elections nor it could exhort anyone to vote for any particular political party. The AIMPLB is an important organisation and commands considerable sway in the Muslim community.
Through a statement issued in Lucknow on Tuesday, AIMPLB chairperson Maulana Rabe Hasani Nadvi clarified that anyone could vote for any party in the country.
“People should vote wisely as per their wish. Voters cannot be coerced, nor could anyone be forced to vote for any party. The AIMPLB has never appealed to any individual or group and will not do so in future. There has been no announcement of anyone's support from the AIMPLB, nor will there ever be. There may be an attempt to mislead through false statements, which should be ignored,” Nadvi said in the statement. However, the AIMPLB chairman advised people to vote wisely.
“Some people and parties want us to issue an appeal because these people are not aware of the customs of the AIMPLB. It is your right to vote. You have to decide whom to vote for. We cannot ask you to dictate terms. Exercise your right to franchise wisely. Keep an eye on the favour of the country and Millat,” Maulana Nadvi said.
