In a sensational double-murder, the aged parents of the local block development committee member were found brutally murdered in their house at Belbharia village under Itiyathok police station of the Gonda district.

The local police rushed to the spot after receiving information. The police suspect that the murder could be a fallout of some property dispute.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shivraj, who visited the scene of crime on Wednesday, claimed that Zakir Mohammad (75) and his wife Nanka (70), residents of Belbharia village under the police station area, were murdered while they were sleeping in a house outside the village on Tuesday night.

As usual, on Tuesday night, the elderly couple came to sleep in the mud house after having food in the old house in which their son, a local BDC member, stays.

Late in the night, unknown assailants battered the sleeping elderly couple with iron rods and bricks and stones, killing them on the spot. On Wednesday morning, the wife of Shere Alam who lives next to Zakir’s mud house, informed the victim's family about the murder.

After receiving information, besides the ASP, Circle Officer of Sadar, Vinay Kumar Singh, and SHO Karunakar Pandey along with a police force reached the spot and started investigation.

The ASP said that prima facie, a case of enmity was coming to the fore in the interrogation. Sniffer dogs and forensic team collected evidence from the spot.

Meanwhile in Gorakhpur, 65-year-old Ram Adhar Nishad, who was going for morning worship in Jainpur village under Gulriha police station of Gorakhpur district, died after being hit by a dumper.

Ram was a priest in a temple in Adhar village.

After the death of the priest, the agitated locals took five dumper drivers hostage and locked them in the temple. The locals also blocked the road on Wednesday morning. Two dumpers were vandalized during the protest.

On getting information, Gulriha Inspector Umesh Kumar Vajpayee and Bhathat outpost in-charge Jyoti Narayan Tiwari reached the village with a police force and defused the situation.

Reports said that Ram Adhar Nishad, a resident of Muhammad Barwa Tola of Jainpur village, was going to worship at a roadside temple at around 4 am on Wednesday when a dumper loaded with earth going from Ramnagar to Jainpur crushed him to death. The driver left the dumper and fled.

Agitated over the death of the priest, the villagers seized half a dozen dumpers and blocked traffic movement from Ramnagar intersection (between Jaunpur and Gorakhpur) after putting the body on the road.

The locals were agitated as just a few weeks ago, three people sleeping on the pavement were mowed down by a dumper in Padleganj area of Cantonment also in Gorakhpur.

The villagers demanded that the Illegal mining should be stopped immediately and compensation should be released for family members of the priest.

Meanwhile, on National Highway 34 in Hamirpur district, an uncontrolled dumper crushed two women, an aunt and her niece, to death.

The accident took place when both the women were going to attend a funeral on Wednesday morning.

Reports said that 45-year-old Radha was going to attend her father's funeral along with her 60-year-old aunt Sushila. Suddenly a speeding dumper crushed both to death near Kuchechha police post in Sadar Kotwali area, killing them on the spot. The local police arrested the dumper driver, identified as Amresh of Balrampur.  Both the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
