As many as 6.21 lakh cases related to ‘Varasat’ have been disposed of during a special drive, the first of its kind in Uttar Pradesh. These land-related cases had been pending for years but were disposed of within two months by Revenue department officials. Of the 6.66 lakh applications received so far, more than 6.21 lakh have already been settled.
“In a unique drive to resolve land disputes and prevent fraudulent transactions of lands the CM had planned the campaign which has been a huge success. More than 9500 matters are being heard in various Revenue courts while the rest are being attended to,” Revenue Secretary, Sanjay Goyal said.
Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Hardoi, Jaunpur and Ghazipur have been the top five districts in Uttar Pradesh to have disposed of most cases related to ‘Varasat’, followed by Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, Sultanpur Gonda, Ballia, Gorakhpur, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh Unnao, Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur.
The `Varasat’ campaign is being conducted in five stages. “As many as 24,000 Lekhpals and 2700 Revenue Inspectors have been deployed to visit villages, gather inputs and dispose of the complaints,” Goyal said.
Besides, the government is also extending the facility to people to apply from Customer Service Centres (CHC). At the end of this two-month drive, the district magistrate will randomly identify ten percent of the revenue village and check facts given in the report of Lekhpal through Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Additional DMs and other officers.
Launched with the promise of 'Aapki Zameen, Aapka Adhikar, Sabko Mile Apna Uttaradhikar’ and aimed at resolving long-pending land disputes, especially in rural areas, the drive has also put a check on land mafia targeting disputed lands in rural areas.
