A total of 43 new coronavirus infected people were detected across Uttar Pradesh, while 71 COVID-19 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. At present, the number of active Covid cases in the state has come down to 490, of which 334 people are in home isolation.

This was informed by Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal in Lucknow on Thursday.

“A total of 12 districts -- Aligarh, Amethi, Chitrakoot, Etah, Firozabad, Gonda, Hathras, Kasganj, Pilibhit, Saharanpur, Shamli and Sonbhadra -- are reported to be free from COVID-19. In the last 24 hours, a total of 2.48 lakh samples were tested to detect the infection across the state and no new infection was found in 54 districts, while positive cases were found in single digit in 21 districts. However an alert has been sounded in Maharajganj, where 10 fresh COVID-19 cases were found on Thursday. All infected patients are residents of the same neighbourhood, located on the Gorakhpur-Maharajganj border,” Sehgal said.

Sehgal said that during preliminary investigation, it surfaced that they had travelled to Gorakhpur and no other travel history was found but an intensive contact tracing would be carried out by a special team in the area and the samples collected would be subjected to genome sequencing in Lucknow.

“So far, more than 5.55 crore vaccine doses have been given in the state. While more than 4.68 crore people have been administered a single dose of the vaccine, more than 87 lakh people have received both doses in Uttar Pradesh,” Sehgal informed.
