Moving towards achieving the target of administering one crore Covid vaccine doses under ‘Mission June’, Uttar Pradesh has set a record in giving the highest number of jabs in the last 24 hours. India’s most populous state, led the country with more than 3.82 lakh doses administered on June 3, followed by Madhya Pradesh (over 3.64 lakh shots), Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and West Bengal.

As per the UP government data, over 28 lakh people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in India on Thursday and Uttar Pradesh accounted for more than 3,82,259 jabs. The total number of jabs administered to people in Uttar Pradesh now stands at 1.94 crore. The inoculation exercise was carried out at around 6,000 centres across the state on Thursday.

“Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a leader in administering Covid vaccination. With Thursday’s record-breaking number and the current pace, we have inched closer to around 2 crores jabs,” a Health department official said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the massive vaccination drive ‘Mission June’ in UP to administer one crore doses in 30 days and it was estimated that the government would have to administer at least 3.4 lakh doses a day to reach the massive target. He has been repeatedly appealing to the people that vaccination is the only way to keep the viral infection away and all eligible persons must shun fears and take the vaccine.

Enthusiasm was seen among the youths falling in 18-44 year category to get their ‘teeka jeet ka’. Of the total 3.82 lakh doses given in the last 24-hour, more than 2 lakh vaccine jabs were given in the 18+ category. However, the chief minister further directed to intensify the vaccination campaign. “All necessary steps should be taken to boost the daily vaccination capacity. The present capacity needs to be increased by three times within a month,” the CM said at a high-level Covid review meeting in Lucknow on Friday.

So far in Uttar Pradesh, around 35.61 lakh people have been fully vaccinated while 1.58 crore people have taken their first dose of vaccine. Among these, as many as 27.16 lakh doses were administered in the 18-44 age group

Guardian special booths for parents of children under 12 years of age have been set up to prepare for the upcoming third wave of Corona. Besides, the government has also set up dedicated camps for state employees, media professionals, teachers, etc. Members of surveillance committees (nigrani samitis) are going door to door in villages encouraging people to get vaccinated. From June 15 onwards, the government will also provide special arrangements for the street vendors, hawkers, milkmen and other underprivileged sections of the society.
