Getting a job through fraudulent means proved costly for 10 jail workers when they all were dismissed from service by the government with immediate effect on Monday.

All of them were posted in various jails of Lucknow division.

Sources said that the salaries and allowances taken so far by the jail workers would be recovered from them.

According to Senior Jail Superintendent of Lucknow District Jail, Ashish Tiwari, among those who have been sacked are Sanyog Lata, Praveen Kumar, Parikrama Din, Dinesh Kumar, Anil Yadav, Rajkishore, Anand Prakash, Dan Singh, Sanjay Kumar and Shiv Bahadur.

In the year 2007, these jail workers got jobs by submitting fake certificates, including sports and home guards. Their recruitment was made by a committee constituted under the leadership of Ambareesh Gaur, the then senior jail superintendent of the Central Jail, Agra. When questions began to arise on the recruitment of these 12 jail workers, the government got it investigated by the Vigilance Establishment.

The Vigilance team recommended action against all these people by sending an inquiry report to the government. Following the recommendation, all the 10 jail guards were sacked by the government.

The Vigilance team has also sent an inquiry report to the government regarding the jail officers convicted in the recruitment scam and has recommended action against them. Now these officers are also expected to be punished.

Sources said that from the very first day of service of all the dismissed jail personnel, their services would be treated as void and the salary and allowances drawn by them during the service period will be recovered.

A recovery order has also been issued against them.
