‘Lakhimpur files’ needed to focus on plight of UP farmers: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav poked fun at the blockbuster film ‘Kashmir Files', saying a new film ‘Lakhimpur files’ should be produced to focus on the plight of the farmers in Uttar Pradesh.

‘Kashmir Files’ focuses on the plight of the Kashmiri Hindus who had to flee their home land following the rise of cross-border Islamic terrorism in the Kashmir valley.

Akhilesh Yadav was in Sitapur on Wednesday and he was asked by the media to respond to the blockbuster `Kashmir Files’.

“Lakhimpur is a neighbouring district of Sitapur and the people of the country know about the plight of the farmers of Uttar Pradesh under the Bharatiya Janata Party rule. The farmers were crushed to death in Lakhimpur,” the SP chief said.

Evading an answer to a question whether he would attend the oath ceremony of the Yogi Adityanath 2.0 government, the SP chief said. “The BJP could not find a better venue than the Ekana stadium constructed during the Samajwadi Party government and they have only changed the name of the stadium to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium.”

The stadium was constructed during the Akhilesh Yadav government (2012-17) and the Samajwadi Party had projected the construction of the stadium as one of its big achievements.

In a bid to enthuse the crestfallen party cadre, Akhilesh Yadav claimed moral victory for the Samajwadi Party in the recently concluded UP assembly elections.

“We could not win enough seats enabling us to form the government in Uttar Pradesh but our vote share and number of seats has registered a sharp increase. Samajwadi Party is surging ahead while the fortunes of the BJP are declining,” the SP chief said.

Expressing his resolve to fight for the common people, Akhilesh Yadav said, “The fundamental issues facing the people of UP would remain the same -- inflation and unemployment. A large number of youth remain jobless and they never anticipated such a verdict in the assembly election and many tried to commit self-immolation and even suicide.”

He said UP was facing economic stagnation and Herculean efforts were needed for reviving the economy of the state. Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the state employees voted in large numbers for the Samajwadi Party through postal ballots.

The SP chief said. “I want to congratulate the people of UP that they have clearly demonstrated that Samajwadi Party is the only alternative to the BJP and the verdict gives a clear indication for the change in future.”

He said the voters of UP had given a clear message that they would not accept the political forces seeking to monopolise power. He said the Samajwadi Party would play an active role as an opposition party.
