Wrong remarks

Nimai Charan Swain

Sir — This refers to the article, “Aamir, you’ve hurt India” (November 25) by Chandan Mitra. It is an irrefutable truth that actor Aamir Khan was able to develop his creative faculty due to ample opportunities provided to him by this country. In light of this, it is surprising that Mr Khan felt a sense of insecurity, that too without tenable instances and cogent reasons.

It is known that, post-independence, there have been many instances when our country had been subjected to intolerance. Prominent amongst them is the suspension of liberty and right to life during the Emergency, the 1984 Sikh massacre, the killing of innocent farmers in Nandigram of West Bengal in 2007 etc. All of these incidents took place when the Congress Government was in power.

Did Mr Khan lodge a strong note of protest against the aforesaid act of barbarityIJ However, if he is convinced that his security is at stake in this country, and that he will be safe in a foreign country, he is at liberty to leave.
