Letter to the Editor

World must unite to fight Islamic State

Manzar Imam

This refers to the editorial, “Barbarians everywhere” (July 6). Terror attacks in Turkey, Bangladesh, Iraq and Saudi Arabia have shocked the entire world. While the motive behind these attacks is to create an environment of fear, the real motive seems to be more sinister. That most sacred cities of the Muslim world are now under attack, proves the fact that the world is falling into the grip of the Islamic State (IS) which has emerged as the most dangerous terrorist organisation.

No religion preaches violence, let alone taking the lives of innocent ones. The IS is a threat not just to Islam or to Muslims, but to all religions and humanity. It is, therefore, necessary for all world leaders to unite and launch a joint front against IS and crush it once and forever. The Muslim world should stop their Shia-Sunni arguments about whose Islam is better, before Islam itself is hijacked by the most wicked, tactical and scheming extremist group of the 21st century.
