Sir — This refers to the article, “Privileges that reach out to only a few” (August 28) by Simi Rizvi. The article most unambiguously portrays the plight of women in India today.
Despite the efforts to impart education and empower the womenfolk of this country, true emancipation remains a distant dream. Women may have arrived as top professionals in various walks of life or as able homemakers and caregivers, but that has in no way changed the chauvinistic attitude of society towards them.
Worse, millions of women continue to be subjected to immense pressure to shoulder the dual responsibility of being a ‘good’ housewife and a working woman. Society needs to change both its attitude and mindset vis-a-vis women, who are equal partners in this country’s progress and well-being.
