Sir — The removal of the toll plaza at Gurgaon has given relief to the lakhs of commuters who used to get caught in traffic hurdles. Mr Raj Thackeray has adopted an agitationist approach to end the toll in Maharashtra. Farmers have resorted to agitations at toll plazas in several parts of NCR-Delhi, demanding waiver of toll fees. Incidents of political workers attacking personnel handling toll plazas have become frequent.
The system of charging toll tax throughout the country is arbitrary and against the norms, with lots of irregularities leading to massive corruption. This has enabled toll-contractors to mint money without fulfilling their part of the deal.
