Sir — Even as people are running from pillar to post to draw money from banks, where they are allowed to draw only a part of their salary, it is encouraging that the Income Tax Department has seized Rs4.7 crore in new notes and 14 kg of gold jewellery from two Chief Engineers of the Public Works Department and three others linked to them in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has enacted a surgical strike on hoarders and terrorists by demonetising high-value notes, it is heartening that the tax authorities have followed suit with raids on law-breakers across the board.
