India, till now, had a healthy tradition of all political parties being united against Pakistan's anti-India activities. In fact, the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao of the Congress had requested Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee to represent the country at a Geneva summit. In recent months, the Indian Parliament got together to pass resolutions against Pakistan for the latter’s anti-India conduct. Earlier, Mr Vajpayee had words of praise for Indira Gandhi over the 1971 war with Pakistan.
It is, therefore, beyond understanding that the same Congress is now openly assisting Pakistan by insisting that New Delhi establish proof of the self-destructed boat being that of terrorists, and doubting the Government's position. Even if the Congress had reservations on the
BJP-led NDA Government's version, it could have taken up the matter in confidence with Prime Minister Narendra Modi rather than raise the sensitive matter openly through the media, and play into Pakistan's hands.
