Sir — While on the cusp of getting a new Prime Minister, we must analyse the cultural mood of the nation, which the mainstream media and political parties, claiming to be champions of the cause of minorities, failed to gauge throughout the election season.
The BJP, under the leadership of Mr Narendra Modi, ran an effective campaign which bypassed the mainstream media in order to directly reach the citizens of the country. The media, especially the electronic forum, which had crucified the BJP and Mr Modi specifically over the past decade, was made irrelevant by the aggressive outreach to voters by sheer hard work and will-power of the party cadre.
Parties such as the BSP, the SP and the RJD continued to pander to their specific vote-banks during the campaign, blissfully unaware of the aspirations of the voters. The Congress, under the leadership of the dynasty, had no idea of the rout they were going to face. The BJP’s campaign tapped into the aspirations of the voters and successfully broke the caste barrier to unify the majority community across the country, which delivered a huge mandate to the party.
